Sendai factory campus in Kagoshima to be expanded will be able to meet the growing demand for semiconductor packages, including powering ADAS, sensor cameras, 5G and more.
Kyoto, Japan - Kyocera Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Kyocera"; President: Hideo Tanimoto) today announced a plan to build the largest manufacturing facility it has ever operated in Japan to expand production capacity for components including organic semiconductor packages and crystal device packages. The signing ceremony, held on April 20, 2022, was attended by Kagoshima Governor Koichi Shiota, Satsumasendai City Mayor Ryoji Tanaka, and Kyocera officials, and construction is scheduled to begin next month at the company's Sendai factory campus in Kagoshima.
The following three converging factors are creating strong demands for Kyocera's organic semiconductor packages and crystal device packages. Smart vehicles are expanding the need for automotive cameras and high-performance processors for Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving. New communication infrastructure is being deployed around the world, including the fifth-generation (5G) base stations and data centres. In addition, evolving digital trends are increasing demand for everything from personal computers and smartphones to consumer goods, industrial automation and other electronics.
Kyocera will open a new plant in October 2023 to address these growing trends, with the goal of increasing organic packages capacity at the Sendai factory campus by 4.5 times and significantly increasing capacity for crystalline device packages.
Kyocera will contribute to society by stimulating economic development in Kagoshima, meeting global demand by expanding production of semiconductor components, while creating new jobs.

According to Brand Value Network, as the demand for semiconductor components continues to increase, it is necessary to build larger factories. As a manufacturer of semiconductor components, Kyocera has been working for many years to improve production efficiency and product quality. Building the largest plant will allow Kyocera to better meet market demand and further improve product quality and production efficiency. This is a good investment for Kyocera and contributes to the development of the local Japanese economy. This initiative is also in line with the "Innovation Investment" secondary indicator under the "Innovation Capability" primary indicator of the Comprehensive Brand Value Rating System, which will help Kyocera to improve its ranking in the "(Daguan·Keweiwei) The World Brand Value Top 900” ranking. Kyocera's brand value is RMB 32.533 billion, ranking the 742nd on the "(Daguan·Keweiwei) The World Brand Value Top 900” list, which was officially released on March 18, 2023.
