Qatar Energy, the "Golden Sponsor" of the FIFA World Cup

 

      With the hosting of the 2022 World Cup, Qatar, a small Arabic country, has been refocused by the media of all countries in the world. It is reported that Qatar has invested 200 billion US dollars in this World Cup, far exceeding the 11.6 billion US dollars in FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 and the 15 billion US dollars in FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014. Why can Qatar "spend a lot of money" on the World Cup? We have to mention Qatar Energy, the "golden sponsor" behind it.       Qatar Energy Company is a comprehensive national oil company, responsible for the development of the country's oil and gas industry. Its business covers the whole oil and gas value chain, including oil and gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), natural gas condensate (NGL), natural gas to synthetic oil (GTL) products, refining products, chemical products, fertilizers, the exploration, production, processing, marketing and sales of steel and aluminum. In 2022, with the intensification of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the world geopolitics will become more and more complicated. Qatar Energy, which holds huge amounts of oil and natural gas energy, has further enhanced its position in the global energy supply chain.

      It is reported that on November 21st, Beijing time, Chinese energy giant Sinopec also signed a new agreement with Qatar Energy Company. Sinopec and Qatar Energy Company signed a 27-year long-term purchase and sale agreement for liquefied natural gas, and Qatar Energy Company will supply 4 million tons of LNG to Sinopec every year. The agreement is an important part of the integrated cooperation between the two sides on the expansion project of gas fields in the Northern Qatar. The northern gas field expansion project is expected to be put into production in 2026. It is reported that this agreement is the second long-term LNG purchase and sale agreement signed by Sinopec and Qatar Energy Company, and the first long-term LNG purchase and sale agreement for the expansion project of the Northern Qatar gas field.

      On November 29, Qatar Energy Company announced that it will supply 2 million tons of liquefied natural gas to Germany every year from 2026, which is the first long-term gas supply agreement signed between Qatar and European countries. The entry into force of the agreement also brings a sigh of relief to European countries that have been subject to Russia in terms of energy.
